LOVLINA BORGOHAIN: Arjuna Award 2020 to an Assamese Boxer.

Sports have been always a platform for athletes to show their skills. These skills do not come easy, one can acquire a certain level of strong-hold in any kind of sport only after years of hard work and determination.









Boxing is also not dissimilar in this regard. International boxing legend like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson are very well known figures in this combat sport. If we talk about India, every citizen knows about the Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh and multiple world champion as well as Olympic bronze medal winner Mary Kom.

Recently a new name has been added to this list. She is none other than Lovlina Borgohain

Why Lovlina Borgohain is in news?

Lovlina Borgohain has been recently in the news because she has been conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award 2020. 

The president of India Ram Nath Kobind has handed over the award on 29th of August. This day is celebrated as National Sports Day across the Indian sub-continent on the memory of the Hockey legend Major Dhayan Chand Singh.

In this year, 27 sportsmen/ women have been selected for the Arjuna Award and 5 for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.

Other Achievements of Lovlina Borgohain.

Gold Medal at 1st India Open International Boxing Tournament (New Delhi).

Silver Medal at 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament (Guwahati).

Bronze Medal at the 2019 AIBA Woman's Boxing  Championships.

Participated in 2018 commonwealth games.

Lovlina hails from Golaghat district of Assam.

Weight class: welterweight (69kgs).

Height: 1.77 m (5.10ft)/

As of March 2020, Borgohain ranks third in the world in 69 kgs the welterweight category.
